So sang John Fogerty in one of my favorite Creedence Clearwater Revival songs, Fortunate Son. Of course he was referring to our good ol’ red, white & blue. And while I get a stirring of patriotism stirring in my heart every time I see the stars & stripes, the American flag is not my favorite. Let me say that I would NEVER burn a flag unless it was severely old & weather damaged, I ALWAYS stand for the National Anthem, & I am very proud to be an American. It’s just that other countries flags to me are so beautiful. I get a little jealous during the Olympics or World Cup when I see some the designs these other nations are sporting on their patriotic symbols. Let’s take a look at some of my favorites, shall we?
Kazakhstan, besides unwittingly inspiring a great character in Borat, also gives us this beautiful flag. I am deeply enamored of the image of the bird flying in front of the sun, the ornate stripe on the left, & I just adore the colors of this flag. I am thinking of using this color combination in a room someday. I just love it!
This one, from the Marshall Islands is simple, but striking to me. I am drawn to the widening diagonal stripe heading to the corner & the star on the opposite corner. They chose a great blue for their flag!
Albania has a simple color combination, but a features a powerful image of a two-headed eagle in the center.
My final favorite is Argentina. I don’t really know why, as I am usually not on board the powder blue train. I think it has something to do with the combination of the stripes & that sun in the middle. I have a thing for that sun.
At any rate, I find flags inspiring, not only in color & design, but what they represent. I like thinking of someday seeing these flags in person, flying over a building in the home country they represent.
Today, I couldn’t be happier that the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup!!! I’m going to take a brief blogging break to celebrate, but will be back next week with all new design-themed stuff & a new pop culture round-up weekly feature that I’ve been working on.

Last night, for the first time in the history of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, a beagle won best in show! The adorable 15″ beagle,Uno, had me jumping up & down with excitement. I love dog shows, & Westminster is my hands-down favorite. I always root for the beagles, especially since my Dad owns three of them! Here’s another picture of Uno with his handler Aaron Wilkerson:

Casey Bramlet was just signed to the Atlanta Falcons! Now I think I can watch that team after the horrible situation with Michael Vick. Yuk. I’m going out on a limb here, but I think guys who raise dogs to fight, just suck. Anyway, the news about Mr. Bramlet is especially exciting because I just joined a Fantasy Football league for the very first time ever!!! If anyone has any suggestions for me, please chime in. Also, congratulations are in order for Casey Bramlet who just got married on 7/7/2007. My brother Jon & Dad were in attendance & said it was wonderful. Congratulations Casey & Marci!

We were busy shooting a film this weekend & couldn’t watch the exciting World Bowl game until today. What an amazing performance from my hometown friend, and World Bowl XV MVP Casey Bramlet! He led the Hamburg Sea Devils to a 37-28 victory over the Frankfort Galaxy. He threw for 347 yards & had 4 touchdown passes, a new World Bowl record!!! Congratulations Casey!!! I look forward to watching your burgeoning NFL career.
A few weeks ago, I posted about Casey Bramlet, the quaterback for the Hamburg Seadevils. This past weekend they beat the Rhein Fire to advance to the NFL Europa World Bowl!!!
Congratulations Casey! He is the first quarterback my Dad coached (& I babysat!) to appear in the NFLE World Bowl. He’s also the first kid from Wheatland, WY & probably the first University of Wyoming quarterback to appear in the World Bowl as well. If any of you are football fans, the game will be broadcast on the NFL Network on Saturday, June 23rd.
Also exciting news, is that Casey (Freund, my husband) and I are featured on our friend Aly’s podcast! We had a great time watching an episode of Buffy, talking about the show & discussing the Season 8 comics with Aly last weekend. We can’t wait to do it again. You can listen to the show by clicking on the title of her post. Our interview is first. (Correction. Our interview is the entire podcast! Also, if you aren’t familiar with Buffy, it will probably confuse you. But, if you are curious about what the Big Daddy Seashell sounds like, then by all means, enjoy!)
I enjoy Sundays. During football season they can be anxious but fun days, filled with cheering or cursing our Chicago Bears. During the summer, Sundays are fun for brunches, thrifting, watching movies & cooking something special for dinner. Today, I enjoyed making pulled pork sandwiches, watching the BBC’s version of Pride & Prejudice, & rooting for a hometown friend in a great NFL Europe game. Growing up in a small town (Wheatland, WY) with my Father (Coach Bill Pentland) as the highschool football coach was a formative experience for me. To this day, there is no sport that touches my soul like football. It is especially enjoyable when you can cheer on someone you know.
Casey Bramlet graduated highschool, and played football with my youngest brother Jon, was my brother Bob’s backup quarterback & was coached by my Dad. When he was 6 or 7, I babysat for him & his two brothers (including Amsterdam Admiral quaterback, Corey Bramlet) on several occasions. In 2004, we watched in Chicago as Casey was picked in the 7th round by the Cincinnati Bengals. This year he was allocated to NFLE by the Washington Redskins. I would think they have to be impressed with his performance in Hamburg. He is the leading quarterback in the league right now, was named NFLE’s Offensive Player of the Week during week 4, & had another great performance in a 21-7 win against Cologne yesterday. With only two games left, I am sure his stats will only get better. On May 14th, both Bramlet brothers faced off against each other for the first time as the Sea Devils beat the Admirals 24-17. Exciting stuff for our small town!
