A very dear friend of my family passed away this weekend. Dude McMillan was a part of my life since I was born in Fayette, MO. My father helped tend bar at the local watering hole in his college town of Fayette, working next to the owner, Dude. Since I attended CMU(CMC when I attended) for a while, McMillan’s was a big part of my life there too. Since my family lived so far away in Wyoming, I was always welcomed by Dude & his lovely wife Margie to spend time at their house. I completely felt at home & cared for while staying with them. He was a wonderful, generous man. He was also a veteran, one of the longest living survivors to have fought in the Battle of the Bulge. This post goes out to Dude, one of the nicest men anyone could ever meet. My thoughts are with the McMillan family.

Dude McMillan was a fine man. Husband, father, mentor, friend. He took us all in at one time or another. He embraced the friends of his children as if they were his own. He was a caring man, a loving man. He could detect falsehood in words and people; when our paths strayed, he knew how to give a nudge back in the right direction, sometimes not so gently. He loved sports, he loved life, and he just loved to visit. He had an amazing breadth of knowledge over many subjects but he never talked down to a person. He absolutely loved his children, his wife, his family. All of us who have spent time with Dude are certainly better for it. He was a man, and all in all, we will not see his likes again.
